MGI top managent development
The partners at MGI Malta together with their Business Development
Manager had recently two half days of top management team development
facilitated by Mr. Björn Hansson, a Swedish psychologist and
MBA specializing in Industrial and Organizational Psychology.
Mr. Hansson normally helps large organizations in Scandinavia with
coaching, team building, recruitment and assessment centres. Amongst
the companies utilising his services, one finds Volvo, Ericsson,
Skanska and Boston Consulting Group.
He offered MGI Malta an assessment of the top management team by
using the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator ® (MBTI) to highlight
how communication, team building, leadership, change, conflicts
and stress is currently handled and how one can improve on the existing
systems.
By mapping out the similarities and differences between the three
partners, MGI Malta will be able to develop better communication
techniques between the partners, thus optimising their various strengths
which in turn helps to enhance the firm's leadership qualities and
the service provided to their clients.
Mr. Hansson is a regular visitor to our island, and MGI Malta hopes
to be able to re-utilise his services in the near future to assess
also the other associates within the firm.
MGI Malta helps national and international clients with Corporate
Finance, Accounting, Audit & Assurance, Taxation, Statutory
Compliance and Management Advisory. See

of
the Malta Institute of Accountants
The Malta Institute of Accountants held its Biennial
conference on the 11th and 12th November at the Radisson Hotel
in St Julians. The conference was branded "Strengthening public
confidence..." and revolved round the changes going on in
the regulatory environment and how the profession is reacting to
such changes. The speakers taking the floor were various and included
high profile professionals from the Big 4 firms both local and
foreign, the Dean of the University of Malta Professor Daniel Darmanin,

was honoured with an invitation to address the conference with
a presentation about the small practice view of the regulatory
environment. Franco, who is currently specialising in Professional
Service Firms as part of his Master of Science degree in Finance,
tackled the topic at the conference from the perspective of how
reactive and capable small firms are to adapt to change and to
specialise. After the plenary session, the President of the Institute,
Mr Tonio Zarb, asked Franco once more to join in a roundtable discussion
with questions and discussion topics being asked from the floor.
The table consisted of the President, Ms Heather Briers, Mr Mario
Galea who is the Managing Partner of Ernst and Young, Mr Steve

04.06.14 - Investment Restrictions Lifted
Legal Notice 178 of 2004 lifted all restrictions previously imposed
on non-Malta residents to carry on business in Malta.
Under the new provisions, all residents of EEA ( i.e. Eu countries,
Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein) can now purchase any amount
of shareholding in Malta registered companies which trade either
in Malta or overseas.
Previously such shareholding was conditional on such companies
staying out of certain industries, example retail, property development
etc.
Non-EEA residents remain subject to certain restrictions. However
the procedures for the approval of applications from such Non-EEA
applicant, have been simplified and the conditions made less restrictive.
It should be noted that the registration of a company and the
issue to the company of the Certificate of Registration is without
prejudice to and does not exempt the company from its obligation
to obtain any other trading licence, permit or authorisation as
may be required from time to time under the laws of Malta.
For further details one can refer to Legal
Notice 178/2004 – (Revocation
of Restrictions Regulations – 2004) which came into effect

speech about professional indemnity
Franco Azzopardi, partner and director of MGI Malta was on Friday
invited to give a speech about professional indemnity for the Malta
Federation of Professional Associations, a “centre in Malta
where the various professions can meet and through various activities
create the climate necessary for the development of an inter-disciplinary
approach to their work”. “Rather than looking at professional
indemnity as a statutory obligation, an important approach is recognizing
risk management as an integral part of any business activity and
then using PI as a risk hedging instrument”, says Franco
Azzopardi.
