Anyone foreigner working in Malta with a Maltese work permit and with a valid works contract can import USED (meaning older than 6 months) personal belongings, free of any duty or tax, including a motor vehicle.
The car can remain in Malta for the duration of the employment as long as it has a valid licence and insurance from the home country. The problem usually arises here since, most countries will require some sort of road worthiness tests for renewal of licence, which usually means that the car has to be taken back home for this test. If this is not a problem and the above conditions apply, then you should not have a problem.
