Question Title What are the personal tax implications of settling in Malta?

Q.  I am an EU citizen and self employed providing engineering consultancy to a range of European clients.  Most of my assignments are carried out from my base office at home and most of my marketing and communications with clients is carried out over the internet.

As I am getting on in age, I wish to settle in a warmer climate and use that country as a base for my professional activity.  What will be my personal tax implications if I decide to settle in Malta?

A. As an EU citizen you have an automatic right to settle in any part of the EU territory to reside and work.  This right extends also to Malta which is becoming a popular destination for anyone seeking warmer climate and a Mediterranean ambience.

As a resident of Malta, all your income, from where ever generated will be taxable under Maltese laws at normal personal rates applicable also to Maltese residents.

The rates applicable can be found in another Question in this web site.
